Scotland Street School Museum (Open Museum) - displays a history of education from past to present in Scotland. Presented in an old school, there is no better setting for such a museum.

The school, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1903, is an essential destination for admirers of his work or for those interested in architecture and design.

At Scotland Street School Museum you can learn about the ways in which education has changed throughout the ages by the many various displays and texts. There are also reconstructions in restored classrooms showing the Victorian era, the Second World War and the 50's/60's.

Why not take a visit to the cookery room, gymnasium or the cloakrooms, which have all been restored to their former glory and give an accurate insight into what school life was like in the past. You will be able to read recollections from former pupils of their schooldays and learn about such topics as classroom discipline, evacuation, school attire, special activities and playground games.

Why not try out your design skills in the in the Mackintosh room on touch screen computers and hands on interactive displays. Or if you prefer a more realistic view of what school life was like then you could try entering the role-playing programme where you will get to experience classroom life first hand.

Step back into the classrooms of the past at Scotland Street School Museum. An entertaining and educational day out for all of the family and children of all ages.
